Victoria Mink (11) tries to figure out all of the answers on the worksheet. Mink told the other club members about her favorite tradition, cooking Polish food with her grandparents.

On Dec. 11, the Word of Life club met for their first annual Christmas Kickoff Celebration. Dr. Dustin Verpooten, Science, the club’s sponsor, led a discussion about how to recruit new members.

“We had a lot of people who did [Word of Life], then they met Campus Life and stopped coming here,” Victoria Mink (11) said.

Dr. Verpooten’s goal is to get up to ten members. The conversation then shifted to family Christmas traditions, some of them going back many generations.

“We would go look at Christmas lights every Christmas Eve. On a small scale I continue that with my kids,” Dr. Verpooten said.

After he shared his favorite parts of Christmas, the other members took turns sharing their family rituals.

“We go over early [on Christmas Eve] to my grandparent’s house and it’s my job to help cook. we get back from my grandma’s at about 1 a.m., and we get up [on Christmas] at 5 [a.m.],” Mink said.

Next semester the club plans to hold meetings after school two Thursdays a month in room C326.
