Q&A: Crystal Guzman (11)

Crystal Guzman (11), plays shortstop for the varsity girls softball team. Guzman has been playing softball since she was six years old.

Q: What position do you play?

A:  I play shortstop.

Q: How long have to been playing softball?

A: I have been playing since I was about six or seven years old.

Q: What made you want to begin playing softball?

A: I started out playing basketball, but I saw kids in my neighborhood playing softball, so I decided to try.

Q: What are your personal goals for this season?

A: Personally, I want to help my team out as much as I can and try to do better hitting. Also, defensively I want to increase my range from shortstop to third.

Q: How do you manage school and softball?

A: Once you get the hang of it is not that bad. Learning how to manage your time helps.

Q: How have you helped the newer players?

A: The freshmen this year listen a lot to the upperclassmen, and I helped them with their first game because they were nervous. I told them to relax and have fun.

Q: What have you learned from the seniors?

A: [I learned] how to handle pressure situations in big games, stay positive and have a mature mentality.

Q: Do you have a specific throwing partner for every practice or game?

A: I play catch with Madison Blythe [(11)] each game and practice.

Q: Last season, the team went to the State championship game. Do you have the same expectations for this year?

A: I am really hoping we do. I think we have a really good team this year, even with some of the freshman, I think they can help us a lot with hitting. I think the freshmen will be a big asset for us.

Q: Do you have plans to play softball in your future?

A: I want to play softball in college, so right now I am still in the recruiting process. I am still looking at a few schools in Indiana, and also Kentucky.
