The varsity baseball team put up a battle against Munster on Saturday, April 11. This game kept fans on the edge of their seats, with the Indians making a huge comeback and defeating the Mustangs 17-7.

The Indians had a slow start, with a score of 7-2 Mustangs in the third inning. A home run by Ian Gifford (11) brought in 3 more runs, raising the score to 7-5 Mustangs in the fourth inning, but gave the Indians a fighting chance.

“I think we all did a good job of just hitting the ball and trying our best to come back from a 2-7 deficit, but I’m pretty proud of the way I played. I definitely felt good [after my homerun]. It kind of put us back in the game, and was just a good way to get momentum going,” Gifford said.

Lake Central scored nine runs in the fifth inning alone, more than Munster scored total. The 17-7 victory raised their record to 4-1.

“We just want to compete. [Next game] we’re going to run a different lineup out because that’s just what we do until we find the nine that fit the best. We want to play hard. We’re trying to learn who is who, trying to learn about us right now and not trying to worry about anyone else,” Coach Jeff Sandor, English, said.
