The boy’s tennis team watches the last match finish. The boys won 5-0.

On Friday, Aug. 28, boys varsity tennis defeated East Chicago 5-0.

“I felt great about the win, it’s always nice to win. East Chicago is inexperienced, [so] we played some new kids in varsity positions to give them some experience, and they did well,” Coach Ralph Holden, Social Studies, said.

This was an easy win but they have tougher competition coming up in the future.

“I felt like it was a good win, it was kind of an easy win for us,” Keith Crawford (11) said.

Since the boys won with the highest score possible in tennis, they had a good attitude, but after the win they realized  improvements they needed to make.

“I feel like we can improve on hitting the ball more aggressively, and being more aggressive in general,” Crawford (11) said.

The boys are working hard to reach their goals for the end of the season.

“Goals for this season are to win at least four matches or more in Duneland Conference and battle in the three tournaments we go to, and try to finish in the top half of every tournament we are in. [We will also try] to battle Crown Point in sectionals because they are the best in the area,” Coach Holden said.
The next match is Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Portage High School.
