Jessie Hearne(12) keeps the ball away from the opposing team. The girls varsity team had superior ball manipulation, which assisted in their victory.

The girls varsity soccer team reigned victorious over LaPorte on Saturday, Sept. 10, with a score of 2-0. The game took place at home, and both goals were scored by Cailee Wilkinson (12).

“[The girls did great at] switching the field. When the defense would collapse on them, they were switching the field, and that would create a lot of opportunities for goals. I was really happy with the way the ball moved and the way we attacked the goal,” Coach Shawn Thomas said.

Even though the girls won, they may not have been performing up to their potential.

“We still need to work on finishing, even though we still got two [goals], and [we also need to work on] rebounds,” Anika Berg (10) said.

The girls’ performance may also have been hindered because the rain made the field slippery.

“[The girls] are young and trying to figure [themselves] out a little bit. The girls are working really hard, so we still have a chance to win the DAC, and that’s our goal,” Thomas said.
