Crushing their competition, the JV volleyball team beat their Merrillville opponents in two short sets on Sept. 8th with final scores of 25-12 and 25-10. The girls all went out onto the court with a strong sense of determination and easily took the game.

“[The girls went into the game] pretty confident. I’ve been here eight years, and [Lake Central] has never lost to [Merrillville]. We were serving well, so that [also] helped [the girls],” said Coach Chris Tinberg.

The girls didn’t let their nerves get to them.  Instead, they relied on their teamwork to score each point.

“Overall, our team works well together. We really mesh, and you can tell [that] there’s chemistry on and off [of] the [volleyball] court,” Kasseidi Lessentine (10) said.

Teamwork and trust are keys to a successful team. This can be difficult to achieve if the girls on the team are different ages. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case.

“It’s very nerve wracking [being a freshman on the JV team], but it’s also very exciting. [My teammates] make me feel very comfortable,” Mackenzie Kusbel (9) said.

Be sure to come out and support the team at their next home game against LaPorte High School on Tuesday, Sept. 13th.
