Mrs. Katelin Ellis, Science, wishes her former tennis team the best of luck with hugs. The girls surrounded the teacher and waited to say their goodbyes.

A meeting was held in room C304 by Mr. Bryan Szalonek, Social Studies, and Mrs. Katelin Ellis, Science, for girls’ tennis. The meeting lasted from 2:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and covered important dates and additional information about the upcoming season.

“I’m extremely excited for the season this year. Hearing the announcements about tryouts is always nerve-wracking, but I’m going to work hard and I hope to make JV this school year,” Sydney Batnick (11) said.

Tryouts for the girls’ tennis team will be held on March 13 and 14 by Mr. Szalonek. Freshmen and sophomores will tryout together first, and juniors and seniors will try out together afterwards.

“I’m going to work really hard this year. I’m excited to see the new team. I really believe we can make it far this year,” Amanda Guerrero (11) said.

Contrasting from the basic information given about the season, Mrs. Ellis emotionally announced that due to her pregnancy, she will not be coaching this year. The girls remained silent throughout the announcement and gave heartfelt hugs after the meeting was over.

“Hearing the news that Coach Ellis won’t be here for the season breaks my heart, but I’m still going to work very hard and apply everything she’s taught me. We’re all like one big family here and we’re going to miss her so much,” Guerrero said.
