On Saturday, Jan. 21, the freshman boys basketball team made their fans proud by playing their hardest against the East Chicago Cardinals. This home game was one of their last of the season.

“[The game] went well, considering we won. I could have improved on the help side of defense, which is when the person you’re guarding doesn’t have the ball so you have to make sure you can see your guy and the ball,” Sean Sullivan (9) said.

The Indians fought hard to keep their lead of 22-19 by the end of the second quarter. During halftime, Lake Central’s freshman cheerleaders hyped up the crowd for the start of the intense second half. With the team’s lead point guard Nicholas Anderson (9) out with a twisted ankle, the boys fought hard for their win of 50-40.

“We’ve all been pretty fun together. We like to make fun of each other and the coach before games and stuff. My favorite experience while being on the team is probably practicing and hanging out with all the dudes,“ Kyle Blum (9) said.

With a strong win under their belt, the Indians will be playing with that same determination during their next game at Bishop Noll on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
