As the Lady Indians prepare to head into their season, Coach Jeffrey Sherman, Mathematics, works with the team during their preseason.

“We’ve done a lot of work in the offseason. We’ve tried to get as many repetitions with swings and defensively as we can. We are just getting the girls outside with the great weather as much as we can. We really spend a lot of time just getting reps, trying to put ourselves in a good position to succeed this year,” Mr. Sherman said.

Last season, varsity softball lost in their Sectional game against Crown Point, so the team is hoping to fulfill their expectations for the upcoming season.

“Our goal every year is to go far. With this years group, we feel like we have a very good chance of doing special things, but we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves and take it one game at a time. Our expectations for this season are the same as they usually are. We always have three team goals: Win the Duneland Athletic Conference championship, extend our State record streak of 20 wins in a season and to put ourselves in a position to make a deep post-season run,” Mr. Sherman said.

With a team of high competition, the girls motivate each other to work hard throughout the season.

“This season has an extremely high level of skillset. We have some extremely talented girls that are going to be on the team this year. From top to bottom this year, we have a very skilled unit. The girls are very competitive just like me; they don’t like to lose. Anytime we lose we want to do whatever we can to fix that so we can always put ourselves in a position to win,” Mr. Sherman said.
