Jocelyn Hansen (10) teaches a player how to pass the puck to a teammate who is open. Hansen realized after coaching the team, she wants to be a coach.

Jocelyn Hansen (10) is uprooting her typical life in the Northwest Indiana region to pursue her dream of being on all-girls hockey team in Massachusetts.

“I am leaving what I have known as my home for 15 years, and I am ready to leave it all behind to follow my dream. I am leaving because hockey has always been the answer to everything for me. It has shaped me into who I am today and has made me a more responsible person,” Hansen said.

Hockey has always been Hansen’s passion. Her love for the game is what has motivates her to continue playing. Hansen has faced many obstacles in high school such as finding girls like her who have the same interests as her. It has been difficult for her being the shy, quiet girl in school who has yet to find her niche with girls who are passionate for hockey.

“The reason preparatory school in Massachusetts spoke to me is because I have had a few friends that have went to preparatory schools and have felt like it where it is where they belong. I feel like this is where I belong and should have been,” Hansen said.

Hansen’s goals are to get into the preparatory school next year and to play division three hockey. She intends to get a full ride academic scholarship. She currently is playing on an all girls hockey team. When Hansen is not playing hockey, she is coaching a U10 girls team.

“When I first started teaching the girls, I did not know how much I would love it. It has made me realize that one day I want to be a coach and guide women who are determined like me to be the best they can be and show that girls can play hockey too,” Hansen said.
