Every student athlete dreams of the moment a college will reach out to them to play the sport they love for the next four years. A select few received this opportunity on Nov. 12.
“Now it’s going to be a much better summer softball season because I don’t have to worry about going out there and being nervous about who’s watching. I can just relax and play,” Olivia Sardella (12) said.
These athletes chose to go to each school because it suited their needs for what they wanted to do in the future.
“[IUPUI] offered me a really good athletic scholarship and I really like the city of [Indianapolis]. I really like the coaches and team. It was the best opportunity for me. I really liked the coaching staff and he was actually one of the first people to recruit me, so it actually meant something to me. They gave me the best offer too,” Joshua Barajas (12) said.
Most athletes have to accept that their career in the sport they play will end shortly after high school, but for these fortunate 11 they have made the decision that they will continue to play the sport they love.
“I just really enjoy the game and knowing that my college is paid for made the decision to play in college a lot easier,” Aspyn Novak (12) said.

Girls Basketball:
Gina Rubino – Indiana University Northwest
Tara Zlotkowski – Indiana University Northwest
