Q: What inspired or influenced you to become so nature-orientated?

A: The only thing that inspired and influenced me to become so nature-orientated was nature itself. The whole world is buzzing with pointless information that we don’t realize the world doesn’t belong to us, we belong to it. We share this amazing planet with many other forms of life, and it is our duty to love and protect it all. Our phones will break, our gossip will eventually be forgotten, our bodies will eventually rot, but the least we can do is preserve this planet for generations to follow.

Q: What are your most valued beliefs?

A: My beliefs are a spectrum of various philosophies. Religiously, I am a Catholic. The Creator comes first in my life, because I am thankful to have life in the first place. I’ve really gotten into transcendentalism after learning about it in literature. I do believe in God, humankind and nature all tie together in an unbreakable bond of spirituality. I believe in all things humanistic and will stand up for any civil rights, environmental rights and the pursuit of happiness. One of my most important beliefs is the idea that bystanding is choosing the side of the oppressor, so I believe in standing up for what’s right.

Q: What are some of your hobbies that you feel impact your life the most?

A: I like to take part in a few hobbies. I enjoy to sketch, paint and create ceramic pieces. I‘m not really good at these things, but art is something you don’t have to be good at to enjoy. I love to create things because it is a good way to unwind thoughts that I wouldn’t dare share with anyone. I like to hike and explore the outdoors. You really learn a lot about the world and yourself alone outside. It’s relaxing. I also love animals, and I have a variety of pets that I take care of. They keep me busy and healthy.

Q: What do you wish to accomplish in the future?

A: I try not to think too far into the future and try to make the best of today, but I do have some goals that I would like to reach. After graduating [from] LC, I will go to Bloomington. I wish to become a doctor as well as learn about political science. I plan to work in Africa with Doctors Without Borders or the Peace Corp. Helping people in need is probably the best feeling in existence, and I cannot wait to reach the hearts and minds of people who need me and [have] them reach my heart and mind as well.
