The Wind Ensemble played three pieces of music. One of their songs was “Gift of Christmas Music.”

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, the Lake Central Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble held a Winter Concert in the auditorium. Each band played three pieces.

“The pieces [Wind Ensemble] performed were ‘Gift of Christmas Music’, ‘Sleep’ and ‘Russian Christmas Music’. I feel like the pieces we performed, especially Sleep and Russian Christmas Music, definitely challenged our ensemble to play on a higher level. ‘Russian Christmas Music’ was definitely my favorite piece. It taught me how to play a long piece and keep endurance up,” Jacob Bailey (10) said.

This was the first concert held with Mr. Dave Nelson, Music, as head director of the band and the first concert with Mr. Elliot Smith, Music, as the assistant director.

“I really like having Mr. Nelson as the main director and Mr. Smith as the assistant director. They both really care about us, and how we play. They are very nice and funny, and they make band fun. Everyone has majorly improved so far this year. All the music played tonight was just as it should have been. Everything sounded just right. I’m proud of my friends and I for making a great performance tonight,” Kimberly Keleher (10) said.

While some people are afraid to go onto stage, others find performing extraordinary and enjoy every second in the spotlight with their instrument.

“Performing is an amazing feeling. I know I make a few mistakes but you have to keep going. Doing concerts is by far my favorite part of band. Performing is just an amazing feeling. There’s nothing like the feeling of leaving the stage knowing you did your best,” Samantha Jendreas (10) said.
