Students gather on stage to receive their James & Betty Dye Foundation scholarship award. This was the first of many scholarships awarded that night.

Senior Honors Night was held in the auditorium on May 16 at 6:30 p.m. Various awards and scholarships were awarded to seniors who excelled both academically and athletically and contributed to their community.

“For Academic Letterwinners, I was an officer for the last two years so that definitely helped. The best all around senior was just working crazy hard all four years, just making sure I did as well as I could in all my classes and all the clubs. Then National Merit Scholar was just the PSAT and there was an essay with that,” Joseph Grzybek (12) said.

Students had to work hard and put in a lot of time and effort to win scholarships and awards. They had to prove themselves academically not only to teachers but to different foundations and associations, too.

“All you can do is do your best. Talk to your teachers, make relationships with your teachers, do well in your classes, put forth a lot of effort and be involved during class because then the teachers will notice you and notice you are putting a lot of effort into [your work],” Candace Jarzombek (12) said.

Although students worked hard all four years of high school, they were still surprised to win scholarships and awards. Most students were not expecting to win anything.

“It was emotional but it [also] was really exciting. I wasn’t expecting to get any of [scholarships or awards]. I didn’t even know most of them existed. It was a big surprise and it was very honoring to know so many people thought so highly of me. I never really thought that they did so it was really nice,” Lauren Tatina (12) said.
